Kingdom of Shadows by Barbara Erskine
Book Number:RC 32232
671 pages on 18 sides
read by Madeline Buzzard
As a young Scottish girl in the 1970’s, Clare was told the story of her
ancestor, Isobel, who lived in the fourteenth century. For years Clare has
been haunted by dreams of Isobel and the torture she received at the hands
of her husband. Now Clare refuses to sell the castle, her husband tries to
prove she is crazy, and Clare finds her life becoming irrevocably linked
with Isobel’s.
This book was published in 1988. I now understand why Erskine's books are
so popular and have stood the test of time. Weaving a beautiful story that
spans nearly 700 years, Erskine is a true master of historical fiction. I
found myself becoming caught up in the emotions of both the present day
story and the story of the past. This is the first book of hers that I've
read. I only wish I'd found her sooner. I give it a huge 5 out of 5.
Happy Reading,
